Indefinite Pronouns
Introduction
The indefinite pronouns are io/iu, ĉio/ĉiu, nenio/neniu. We use indefinite pronouns to generalize (rather than speaking about something concrete).
Example
Mi perdis mian vojon. Nenio estas konata. Ĉio estas fremda.
Neniu estas en la strato. Mi volas demandi iun pri la vojo. Certe iu povus montri al mi la vojon en la urbocentron. Sed ĉi tie estas neniu, kiun mi povas demandi. Ekzistas kelkaj domoj, sed ĉiuj estas mallumaj. Ŝajnas, ke ĉiuj malaperis.
Mi pensas, ke mi aŭdis ion. Ĉu iu diris ion ajn? Ĉu estas iu ajn ĉi tie? Mi farus ion ajn por retrovi vojon en urbocentron. Iu ajn, kiu povas helpi min, estas bonvena!
Construction
Indefinite pronouns are the correlative words that begin with nen-, ĉi- and i-. When an indefinite pronoun relates to a thing/object, we add the -o ending.
- Example:
- nenio, ĉio, io
When they relate to people, we add the -u ending.
- Example:
- neniu, ĉiu, iu
We have to add the accusative or plural endings when neccessary.
- Example:
- Mi volas demandi iun pri la vojo.I would like to ask someone for directions.
- Mi pensas, ke mi aŭdis ion.I think I heard something.
- Ŝajnas, ke ĉiuj malaperis.It seems that everyone has disappeared.
